About BalaSole Dance Company
BalaSole Dance Company, a multi-genre and all-inclusive dance company, is the first hybrid dance organization in the United States that is solely dedicated to bridging the gaps in the field of dance. It is the only dance company-showcase, the first of its kind, that provides artists with mentorship, artistic freedom, an arena to express their own artistic voice, and an environment for cross-pollination of styles. In June 2012, BalaSole Dance Company officially became the resident dance company of the University of Mount Saint Vincent.

Mission
The mission of BalaSole Dance Company is to bridge the gaps that exist in the field of dance. BalaSole Dance Company carries out its mission by:

  • Addressing various under-representations in the field in terms of personal artistic expression, genre, style, body type, age, gender, and ethnicity;
  • Giving dance artists a platform that encourages artistic freedom;
  • Providing technical, artistic, and career mentorship to dance artists;
  • Demystifying the professional field of dance;
  • Strengthening the relationship between the performance and academic arenas of dance;
  • Connecting dance to other artistic and non-artistic fields; and
  • making the art of dance accessible to under-served communities.

Responsibilities
The Program Administration Intern will be responsible for the following functions:

Assist in Organizing and Managing Events

  • Secure corporate/business sponsors for Winter and Summer 2015 concert seasons
  • Generate communications to existing and potential partners, donors, VIPs and sponsors
  • Conduct photo and video coverage of workshops, auditions and rehearsals
  • Promote events via social media, as well as online and/or press listings
  • Create or review marketing materials
  • Secure and oversee event volunteers
  • Post flyers and postcards at various venues
  • Conduct research related to grant opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
The Program Administration Intern must be:

  • A student at the University of Mount Saint Vincent
  • Enrolled in a course/program that includes an internship component
  • Excellent in verbal and written communications
  • Detail oriented, efficient, and highly organized
  • Excellent with planning and time management
  • Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Assertive, outgoing, creative, hard-working, and independent
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel (Photoshop a plus)
  • Experienced in using social media

BalaSole Dance Company will only accept student interns highly recommended by a University of Mount Saint Vincent faculty member. To apply, a letter of recommendation from the said faculty member and a resume must be submitted to Roberto Villanueva (info@balasoledance.org). Scheduling for this internship and the aforementioned responsibilities will be established within the first three days of the Spring 2015 semester.
