College Directions Program Intern Job Description
Job Title: College Directions Intern
Department: Youth Services
Reports to: College Directions Coordinator

Internship Description
Riverdale Neighborhood House is a non-profit organization which has been around for a 130 years.  The newest component to the Riverdale Neighborhood House is the college directions program for their newly built teen center.  Under the direction of the College Directions Coordinator and in collaboration with the Teen Program the intern will be assisting the Coordinator with day to day programing and managing all aspects of the college directions program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Assisting with administrative tracking
  • Assisting with planning and implementing events
  • Maintaining collaborative relationships with community agencies, colleges, college counseling networks and schools that consistently provide support, collaborate around specialty projects and/or send youth to use college access services
  • Providing task supervision of teen intern
  • Assisting coordinator in building an effective college counseling program
  • Facilitating teen group programs
  • Maintaining paper work
  • Engaging alumni of the program

Supervisory Responsibilities
Helps supervise teen center participants, youth interns and volunteers as needed

Education
Psychology or Sociology preferred and/ or a desire to pursue a counseling field

Hours
Hours of operation for the college directions office are Monday through Friday 10 to 6. There will be opportunities for weekends and to work late night events as well.  The schedule can be very flexible.

Riverdale Neighborhood House Intern – After School Program
Students to assist group leaders with their daily activities.  These activities include outdoor play, homework help, and reading and if the activity can be literacy based to coincide with the book. Simple projects of arts and crafts, making play dough or cooking small dishes. Children arrive around 2:20 we pick them up in the school. Outside play is first then snack and activities.
