Mount Student Sindy Gonzalez Selected to Participate in Path to Peace Foundation

University of Mount Saint Vincent student Sindy Gonzalez was selected among 50 college students to participate in the fourth annual Path to Peace Foundation seminar sponsored by the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations. Gonzalez will meet with UN personnel, religious leaders and other college students from around the United States and Canada to discuss ways the world can become a better place. The conference will take place from May 16 to 21, 2009.
The Foundation was established in 1991 to support the educational, cultural and humanitarian activities which complement diplomatic parameters of the Holy See Mission to the United Nations. The purpose is to spread the word of peace through words and teachings of the Pope.
Sindy Gonzalez was recommended by Professor Edward Zukowski, Chair and Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, and the Campus Ministry Office to take part in the seminar. In regards to Sindy, Sister Cecilia Harriendorf says “The founder of the Sisters of Charity, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, called herself “a citizen of the world.” In keeping with Elizabeth’s vision, we are delighted to support your participation in this important global view of the Church.”
Sindy will receive room and board while participating in the conference where she will stay at the Passionist Spiritual Center in the Bronx, NY. Throughout the six day conference, Gonzalez and the other students will take daily trips to the United Nations, meet with a variety of UN personnel and religious leaders and attend sessions devoted to Catholic Church concepts such as social teaching and relationship between the United Nations and the Vatican.
The gathering of college students will be led by Archbishop Celestino Migliore, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations and President of the Path to Peace Foundation.
