Commuter Life

More Than a Commute. A Community.

At the University of Mount Saint Vincent, commuter students are an essential part of our campus community, making up nearly half of our student population. Whether you’re commuting from across the boroughs or live just minutes away, the Office of Student Engagement is committed to helping you build connections, get involved, and make the most of your Mount experience.

We offer a variety of programs designed specifically for commuter students on campus, creating opportunities to connect with classmates, recharge between classes, and feel at home. Throughout the year, you can participate in Commuter Connects, Midday Breakfast during finals week, Commuter Appreciation Week, and Grab and Go events featuring wellness bags and other resources designed to support students on the move.

Our Commuter Assistant (CA) Program pairs first-year commuter students with experienced upperclassmen who serve as peer mentors. Commuter Assistants help new students navigate campus, discover opportunities to get involved, connect with campus resources, and build meaningful relationships throughout their first year.

No matter your schedule, there are countless ways to become part of the UMSV community. From student organizations and leadership opportunities, to campus traditions, volunteer experiences, and social events, commuter students are encouraged to get involved, meet new people, and create a college experience that’s uniquely their own.

Your journey doesn’t end when class does—it starts with getting involved.
