Foreign Service Diplomat Thomas Hart Armbruster to Visit the College of Mount Saint Vincent

Riverdale, NY — Thomas Hart Armbruster, a Senior Foreign Diplomat Officer with the U.S. Department of State, will visit the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday, October 19 as part of the “Let’s Go International,” The International Studies Symposium. The event begins at 4:00 p.m. in Smith Hall and is free and open to the College and the community. Mr. Armbruster has served as a United States Service officer in Russia, Tajikistan, Cuba and Finland. He has also worked as a news reporter and has been published in a numerous magazines.

In addition to Mr. Armbruster’s visit, the event will feature a student panel discussing their study abroad experiences. Dr. Natalia Smirnova, Assistant Professor of Economics, will be available to answer questions on the Mount’s study abroad program and international focused classes.

This symposium is part of the Mount’s initiative to provide its students with a strong international background in the world of 21st century globalization. In 2006, a multidisciplinary Center for International Studies (CIS) was established to aid the quest for successful career preparation by including a strong international studies minor and languages acquisition program.

This past May 2010, the College received a Title VI grant from the U.S. Department of Education to grow its international programs through the development of a variety of new academic and co-curricular/educational offerings. The University of Mount Saint Vincent’s Center for International Studies encourages students to enroll in classes pertaining to international relations and participate in the College’s study abroad programs.
