Acclaimed Author Ernesto Quiñonez to Read at Mount Saint Vincent

10/11/2005

Ernesto Quiñonez will visit the University of Mount Saint Vincent Wednesday November 2nd to read from his novel Chango’s Fire.

The novel, which will be released in paperback October 25th, is set in Spanish Harlem and explores the changing face of life in American cities. Through colorful and well developed characters such as Julio, an arsonist, and Maritza a pastor who sells forged citizenship documents, Quiñonez tells a unique and thoughtful story that addresses themes such as urbanization, immigration, ambition, pride and urban decay.

Quiñonez is also the author of Bodega Dreams, and has been praised for his “cinematic detail” and “crisp dialogue,” and according to critics and fans “is helping to establish Spanglish as a new-millennium urban language.”

The reading will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2 in the President’s Reception Room in the Administration building at Mount Saint Vincent. Quiñonez will sign copies of Chango’s Fire, which will be available for purchase at the event. The reading is free of charge. The Mount Saint Vincent and neighboring communities are encouraged to attend. Please call 718-405-3341 for more information.
