Business Professor Awarded Fulbright Program Grant

6/12/2006

Teresita Ramirez, PhD, has been selected to take part in the Department of Education’s 2006 Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program.  She will be one of 16 educators from the United States to participate in a seminar entitled History and Culture in China, to be held from June 26 to July 30, 2006.

Dr. Ramirez will learn about the Chinese educational, political, and economic systems as well as China’s culture, society and language through lectures, discussions, and site visits in Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, and other cities in China.   The group will also visit Hong Kong.

Dr. Ramirez is Chair of the University of Mount Saint Vincent’s Department of Business and Economics; she is eagerly awaiting the seminar and promises “to make the University of Mount Saint Vincent proud.”

The award includes round-trip economy airfare, room and board, fees; and program-related travel within the host country.  The Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program provides opportunities for overseas experience. The program is open to educators and administrators with responsibilities for curriculum development in fields related to humanities, languages, and area studies. Topics and host countries of the seminars vary from year to year. All seminars are in non-western European countries. Seminars are designed to provide a broad and introductory cultural orientation to a particular country. The program is geared towards those educators with little or no experience in the host country who demonstrate the need to develop and enhance their curriculum through short-term study and travel abroad.
