Mount Professor Receives NCA Outstanding Publication Award

11/27/2012

Riverdale, N.Y. – Dr. Michelle Scollo, Assistant Professor of Communication at the University of Mount Saint Vincent, received the National Communication Association (NCA) Outstanding Publication Award for Language and Social Interaction Scholarship on Saturday, November 17, 2012 in Orlando, Florida.

Dr. Scollo received the award for an article she published last year, “Cultural Approaches to Discourse Analysis: A theoretical and methodological conversation with special focus on Donal Carbaugh’s Cultural Discourse Theory” in the Journal of Multicultural Discourses.

NCA is the largest professional communication organization in the world. Recipients of the Outstanding Publication Award have been established in their respective field for a decade or more. It is noteworthy that Dr. Scollo has earned this award only five years after her doctoral degree was conferred.

“Dr. Michelle Scollo’s award for her article is well-deserved,” says Dr. Vincent Fitzgerald, Chair and Associate Professor of Communication. “This award is extremely prestigious and competitive, and the fact that it went to a faculty member at the University of Mount Saint Vincent is indicative of the outstanding work being done in the Communication Department by faculty and students alike. Dr. Scollo deserves an enormous amount of credit for this outstanding achievement.”
