College of Mount Saint Vincent Begins Construction of the Fishlinger Center

7/29/2015

Riverdale, N.Y. – Construction has begun on the Fishlinger Center for Public Policy Research at the University of Mount Saint Vincent. The Fishlinger Center, which will conduct deep and broad studies of public opinion on key public policy concerns through independent and objective research conducted by students, faculty, and other members of the academic community, allows new opportunities to illuminate public opinion on social issues and engage participants in research to encourage meaningful dialog and constructive action.

“The Center will benefit students, faculty, and the entire Mount Saint Vincent community with a first-class, state-of-the-art, integrated research center for teaching, training, and the conduct of original research,” said James Donius, Director of the Fishlinger Center.

The Fishlinger Center will house 24 work stations for both internet and telephone data collection, database access, and data processing and analysis. Each station will be fully equipped with the latest software for cross tabulation, multivariate analyses, and data mining and predictive analysis. Additionally, the Center will have a separate multipurpose room fully equipped with A/V for focus groups, briefings, and meetings. Both rooms will have a schedule of availability when not being used by the Center for use by the Mount community.

Recently, the Fishlinger Center announced its first public policy survey project on a range of social issues. The survey entailed polling a nationally representative sample of 1,250 U.S. adults (18+) on a number of social issues, including affordable health care, drug addiction, education opportunities, environmental issues, and poverty—with special emphasis placed on questions surrounding human trafficking. The results of this poll will be reported in the Fall of 2015.

Construction is projected to be completed by the end of August.
