College of Mount Saint Vincent Presents Day of Service October 20, 2012

Riverdale, N.Y. – Students, faculty, alumnae/i, administrators, and staff from the University of Mount Saint Vincent will participate in the College’s first Day of Service at various locations on- and off-campus October 20, 2012.

This is the College’s inaugural Day of Service, and is intended to bring the campus community together to participate in meaningful projects that benefit the local Bronx and Yonkers communities. Service is integral to the College’s mission, and the aim of this event is to organize a concerted effort among students, alumnae/i, and staff.

“At the University of Mount Saint Vincent, service isn’t a requirement,” says Director of the Office of Campus Ministry Cecilia Harriendorf, S.C., one of the event’s organizers. “It’s a way of life.  It’s who we are and who we hope our student will become – men and woman of care, concern and service to others.”

Activities planned for the day include:

  • It’s My Park: Cleanup of Van Cortland Park
  • Breakfast Run: CMSV serves up food & friendship to NYC’s homeless men and women
  • Campus Cleanup: Join members of the Mount community to clean up the College’s beautiful campus
  • POTS: Members of the Mount community volunteer at the POTS Soup Kitchen in the Bronx
  • All Saints Pantry: CMSV community members volunteer at the Harlem-based food pantry
  • Habitat for Humanity: Members of the College community head to Hoboken to build homes for families in need Greystone Gardens: Mount Saint Vincent students, alumnae/i, and staff assist with arts and crafts during the Community’s Oktoberfest in Yonkers
