Dr. Nina Aversano Honored with a 2014 ACBSP Teaching Excellence Award

4/14/2014

Riverdale, N.Y. – Dr. Nina Aversano, Assistant Professor of Management at University of Mount Saint Vincent, has been named the recipient for the Region 1 2014 Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Teaching Excellence Award. The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs recognizes individuals annually from each of its 10 regions who exemplify teaching excellence in the classroom.

Dr. Nina Aversano will be honored, along with other regional recipients, at the 2014 ACBSP Annual Conference, June 27-30 in Chicago, Illinois, www.acbsp.org and will receive a medallion and a $100 check. Two International Teaching Excellence Award recipients will be announced at a special Salute to Regions luncheon, one from a baccalaureate/graduate degree-granting institution and one from an associate degree-granting institution. As a regional recipient, Dr. Nina Aversano is now a candidate for the international award.

“Dr. Aversano’s dedication to effective teaching and learning is clearly shown in her thoughtful and well-organized course syllabi and examination formats,” says Dr. Teresita Ramirez, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Business and Economics. “She organizes her students into self-managed teams to help them develop critical business skills in team-building and communication. In order to instill in students the importance of value-based leadership in business, Dr. Aversano enhances classroom discussions by inviting distinguished business leaders to speak about corporate social responsibility and ethical leadership. Students benefit greatly from interacting directly with business executives who are also role models in their organizations and communities.”

The Associate Degree Commission of ACBSP established the International Teaching Excellence Award in 1995 to recognize outstanding classroom teachers. In 2002, the Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Commission created a similar award to recognize excellence in teaching at the baccalaureate/graduate degree level. ACBSP is the only specialized accrediting body for business schools that presents an award recognizing excellence in teaching, open to application by the entire membership.
