Dr. Rob Jacklosky Awarded NEH Grant

Riverdale, NY – Dr. Rob Jacklosky, Director of Writing and Professor of English, has been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant to study Charles Dickens this summer. He will participate in the NEH Summer Seminar for School and College Educators, called, “Performing Dickens:Oliver Twist and Great Expectations on Page, Stage, and Screen,” at the University of California, Santa Cruz from July 6, 2014 to August 1, 2014 with 16 other faculty members and independent scholars.
Additionally, he will participate in “Dickens Universe,” a yearly gathering of Dickens scholars and enthusiasts which this year will study the novel Our Mutual Friend from August 3, 2014 to August 8, 2014.
Dr. Jacklosky’s own Dickens project looks at the use of performativity and theatricality as means of delivering emotional truth in Nicholas Nickleby and David Copperfield.

NEH grants typically go to cultural institutions, such as museums, archives, libraries, colleges, universities, public television, and radio stations, and to individual scholars. The grants strengthen teaching and learning in schools and colleges, facilitate research and original scholarship, provide opportunities for lifelong learning, preserve and provide access to cultural and educational resources, and strengthen the institutional base of the humanities.
Each year, summer programs are offered by NEH to provide 16 college and university faculty members and independent scholars with an opportunity to enrich and revitalize their understanding of a variety of humanities topics. These opportunities are tuition-free, and stipends are awarded to help cover travel, room and board, and research expenses depending on the length of the program.
