Governor Cuomo Nominates Mount Alumna Maria Vullo ’84 as Superintendent of New York State Department of Financial Services

Riverdale, N.Y. – Mount Saint Vincent alumna Maria T. Vullo ’84 was nominated yesterday by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to serve as the Superintendent of the New York State Department of Financial Services.

​“The Governor has made a superlative appointment,” said Charles L. Flynn, Jr., President. “The University of Mount Saint Vincent congratulates him and her.”

Ms. Vullo is an experienced litigator and manager, with more than 25 years of practice in business litigation and investigations in state and federal courts. She is currently Of Counsel at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, where she has been a partner for 20 years. She previously oversaw the Economic Justice Division in the Office of the New York State Attorney General.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be nominated to serve as Superintendent of the Department of Financial Services,” said Ms. Vullo. “I thank Governor Cuomo for this tremendous opportunity, and am excited to serve the people of the State of New York once again.”

Ms. Vullo is a leader in the protection of women’s rights. She is a member of the Boards of Directors of the National Organization of Italian-American Women, the Women’s Equality Coalition and the ERA Coalition, Inc., and is a member of the New York Women’s Bar Association and the Women Trial Lawyers Caucus. She has also devoted herself to significant pro bono and non-profit causes.

Ms. Vullo graduated summa cum laude from the University of Mount Saint Vincent in 1984. She received her J.D. from New York University’s School of Law in 1987, and earned her M.P.A. from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service in 2012.
