Judith M. Erickson Appointed Dean of Nursing at the Mount

1/18/2017

Riverdale, N.Y. – Last month, seasoned nursing veteran Judith M. Erickson began her position as dean of the University of Mount Saint Vincent’s nursing program. She has held dean positions since 2008, beginning at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida. There she was the founding dean of the College of Health Sciences (CHS), which included the School of Nursing, the Department of Communications Sciences and Disorders, Health Information Technology, and the Exercise Science Department.

From 2014 to 2016, Dean Erickson served as dean and Harriet Rothkopf Heilbrunn Professor of Nursing at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York. She was responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the School of Nursing.

Dean Erickson also has extensive clinical experience specializing in psychiatric-mental health nursing using a holistic, psycho-dynamically based approach to treatment. Throughout her career, Dean Erickson had fond memories of the Mount, a place she discovered as a child. “After church, my family and I would sometimes visit the campus to see the Hudson River,” the Yonkers native recalls. “We would watch the trains go by. It was peaceful and very beautiful.”

Dean Erickson felt like she had come home after she started teaching in the College’s accelerated nursing program last August. Once approached about the dean position, she ultimately knew it was the right place for her.

She is dedicated to fostering the nursing program’s growth and helping students succeed by offering strong faculty support. She also feels lucky to be at the Mount. “People love it here,” she says. “The nursing program here has long been well-respected.” She said she looks forward to the privilege of guiding its continued success.
