Mount Center for International Studies to Host Internationally Known Author, Actor and Professor Dr. Kalyan Ray April 5, 2011

Riverdale, N.Y. – The University of Mount Saint Vincent’s Center for International Studies is pleased to host author, actor and professor Kalyan Ray at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011 in the President’s Reception Room, Administration Building, on the Riverdale campus. Dr. Ray is director of the International Partnership for Service-Learning: India. He will be speaking on the subject of international service learning.

Dr. Ray has had a long association with Indian social service organizations, including collaboration with Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa in Calcutta. He was involved with the first documentary on Mother Teresa’s work shown in the United States. Dr. Ray is the author of the internationally acclaimed novel Eastwords, as well as many other works of scholarship and fiction. He recently completed his second novel, No Country, about the Irish and Indian Diasporas.

Dr. Ray is also a feature film actor, winning the Indian National Award in 2010, as well as the award for Best Supporting Actor in the Bangkok Film Festival. He is currently splitting his time between County College in Morris, New Jersey, where he is an English professor, and Kolkata and where he teaches and actively engages in social service projects.
