3/9/2017

Riverdale, N.Y. – The new partnership between Mount Saint Vincent and the Hebrew Home at Riverdale, a complex of senior apartments and a nursing home, was featured in The Wall Street Journal in an article titled “Seeking Intellectual Buzz, More Senior Citizens Audit College Classes.” The partnership allows the senior residents of the Hebrew Home to audit classes for free at Mount Saint Vincent.

The story highlights the benefits of such a collaboration, including the expansion of racial and socioeconomic diversity pursued by schools nationwide and most importantly, the opportunities students of vastly different ages have to learn from each other. Additionally, the article underscores the importance of higher education to seniors, more than 66,000 of whom were over 64 years old and chose to enroll in degree-granting postsecondary institutions in 2013, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.
