Mount Saint Vincent Launches Dance Company

Riverdale, N.Y. – The University of Mount Saint Vincent is launching its own dance company through an inaugural spring show on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. in Cardinal Hayes Auditorium/Grace Center.

One of them is lifted  by the others.The name of the new dance company will be unveiled during the performance, which will feature works by faculty and students from the College’s Division of Communication, Art, and Media. The show will also welcome guest performers from Dance Progressions, a Connecticut-based dance academy, and a performance by Roberto Villanueva, Director of Dance at the Mount and Executive and Artistic Director of the BalaSole Dance Company, the Mount’s dance company-in-residence. Some of the show’s works pull inspiration from themes including commitment, memory of a loved one, the celebration of life, and letting go.

The cast includes students—and founding members—Vanessa Aceituno ’20, Mikaela-Rose Blanchard ’19, Gabrielle Cole ’20, Alyse Giallorenzo ’19, Breeze-lyn Morita ’20, James Pousont ’20, and Rachel Young ’19. Mount student Omayra Gonzalez will also participate in an administrative capacity. Faculty choreographers include Gierre Godley and Pascal Rekoert. Guest performers from Dance Progression are Kalagena Sullivan-Torres and Jenica Sweeney.

Mount student participants are currently enrolled in the Dance Performance and Production course at the College. The class has provided them the opportunity to create and learn the various choreographic works presented during the show, as well as to discover the artistic, technical, and administrative aspects of organizing a dance production.

Tickets are $3 for Mount students and $7 for general admission and can be purchased in advance or at the door starting May 3 at 6:30 p.m.
