Mount to Host AAUW Conference for Young Women

4/10/2018

Riverdale N.Y. – The University of Mount Saint Vincent will host the Westchester County branch of the American Association of University Women’s (AAUW) 15th annual Explore Your Opportunities (EYO) Conference on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

EYO is an annual, immersive conference for seventh grade girls to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The conference provides young women the opportunity to meet and interact with female role models who work in the STEM fields. Through fun, experiential learning, the event is meant to inspire and encourage participants to expand their career opportunities.

The conference consists of a keynote speech followed by two workshop sessions. During the hands-on workshops, the young participants will engage in work that reflects a wide variety of STEM-related careers, under the guidance of successful women professionals.

Throughout the day, participants will also play a “Mystery Woman” game, which entails matching clues about the careers of the women role models attending the event. They will also have the opportunity to interview each “Mystery Woman” to learn more about their various STEM professions and to be inspired to follow in their footsteps.

Mount Saint Vincent has been hosting the EYO conference on its Riverdale campus since 2010. The conference is based on the Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics (EYH) conferences. The Expanding Your Horizons Network has been helping organize similar conferences that nurture girls’ interest in STEM courses and careers across the United States since 1976.
