9/21/2005

Alsacia Pacsi, of Yonkers, has received The Promise of Nursing for New York Regional Faculty Scholarship. The $3,000 award is sponsored by The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc.

The Promise of Nursing Regional Faculty Scholarship Program awards scholarships to promising nurse educator students who have a commitment to the nursing faculty role and have attained high academic standing in their baccalaureate and graduate studies.

Pacsi is pursuing a Post-Master’s Nurse Educator Certificate at the University of Mount Saint Vincent. She also works as an emergency room nurse and serves as a sub-lecturer at Lehman College. “I trained as a family nurse practitioner, so this scholarship is very rewarding for me. With the help of the Nurse Educator Program at Mount Saint Vincent I am gaining insight into the intricacies of the learning process and an understanding of how to deliver information and lessons with efficiency. I call tell or show a nursing student what they should do in that role, but with I an understanding of the learning process I can deliver information and lessons with efficiency, and have a greater understanding of how it is being received.”

Kathy Flaherty, EdD, Director of Post-Master’s Nurse Education at Mount Saint Vincent, is grateful for scholarship programs such as The Promise of Nursing Regional Faculty Scholarship, which enable deserving students to better train and prepare for a career in education. She says “it is crucial that advanced practice nurses who have a passion for teaching be adequately prepared for the educator role” said Flaherty, “this way they will have expertise in nursing practice and develop expertise in their teaching practice.”

The Post-Master’s Nurse Educator Certificate Program at the University of Mount Saint Vincent is sponsored by an Advanced Nursing Education Grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Service Administration.
