Philippine Consul General in New York To Visit Mount Saint Vincent

Dignitary to honor Philippine hero Andrés Bonifacio

Riverdale, N.Y. – Philippine Consul General in New York Ma. Theresa B. Dizon-de Vega will visit the University of Mount Saint Vincent to join commemorative activities for Bonifacio Day, a celebration of the life and heroic sacrifice of Philippine revolutionary Andrés Bonifacio, on November 29 at 4 p.m. in the Science Hall, Room 101.

Consul General Dizon-de Vega will introduce a film screening of Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo (Bonifacio: The First President), based on the life of the Filipino hero who led his countrymen during a rebellion against Spanish rule. The event is open to the College community, including alumnae/i, and the general public. A discussion with Consul General Dizon-de Vega will take place after the screening.

Consul General Dizon-de Vega joined the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) after placing first in the Foreign Service Officers Examination in 1994. She has since served in various officers in the DFA as well as foreign postings in Mexico (as Third and then Second Secretary and Consul), Hong Kong SAR, China (Consul), the United Kingdom (Minister and Consul General) and New York (Deputy Consul General and Manager of the Philippine Center). She was appointed Consul General of New York in 2016.

SAMAHAN, a Mount student organization celebrating Filipino heritage and open to all Mount students, is hosting the event.
