President Flynn Responds to Channel 7 Report of Building and Fire Code Violations

5/9/2007

President Charles L. Flynn, Jr., issued the following statement today regarding a Channel 7 report of building and fire code violations at the College:

“I did not know about this situation until informed by Channel 7. I am grateful that these violations did not lead to serious injury to any of our students, faculty, or staff. I have begun an immediate investigation to determine how I was not made aware of this longstanding, recurring problem.

The College has secured the expertise of former FDNY Commissioner and career firefighter Thomas Von Essen to advise us on how to correct these problems quickly and implement systems to preclude such a situation in the future.

College officials have already met with Bronx Borough Commissioner Marshall Kaminer of the NYC Department of Buildings and have established a plan with him to correct all Department of Buildings violations.

I apologize and promise that this situation will be corrected.”
