Red Monkey Theater Group Announces Extension of Residency at the College of Mount Saint Vincent through May 2018

4/9/2013

Next Production, “Reasons to Be Pretty” by Neil LaBute, Performs May 3-11, 2013, at Cahill Theater

The University of Mount Saint Vincent and the Red Monkey Theater Group (RMTG) have reached a 5-year agreement that will make RMTG the College’s resident theater company through May 2018. RMTG has been in residence at the College since mid-2012 and collaborated in the creation of a new performance space, Cahill Theater.

RMTG’s first production in the space, Anton’s Checkhov’s Uncle Vanya, opened just days after Superstorm Sandy in November 2012, and the group’s performances on campus have played to consistently packed houses throughout the season, which has also included productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare and Hidden In This Picture By Aaron Sorkin, as well as a series of dance performances. The group has also offered workshops on stage combat and Shakespearean performance. Throughout the residency, RMTG staff will continue to advise and mentor CMSV students through classes, internships, and apprenticeships.

RMTG’s next production, reasons to be pretty by Neil LaBute, performs May 3-11, Thursday-Saturday at 8:00 p.m., Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Cahill Theater at the University of Mount Saint Vincent’s Riverdale Campus. Tickets are available at www.redmonkeytheater.org ($18 general admission, $15 students and seniors, free for CMSV students and staff). LaBute’s acclaimed 2008 comedy, centering on the relationships of two young couples, focuses our collective obsession with physical appearances and our daily struggle to make ourselves understood by those closest to us.

“We’re delighted to announce that we have reached a long-term agreement to continue to share performances with audiences in Cahill Theater,” said RMTG Artistic Director Tal Aviezer. “We look forward to enhancing the University of Mount Saint Vincent’s presence as a cultural destination, enriching the arts experience of the school community, and welcome new audiences to this unique performance space.”
