Riverdale, N.Y. –Red Monkey Theater Group (RMTG), resident theater company at the University of Mount Saint Vincent, presents Sherlock Holmes: The Final Problem, adapted by Tal Aviezer from the stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, next month. Performances are April 1-2, 7-9, 21-23, and 29, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m., in Cahill Theater on the Mount Saint Vincent campus. Tickets are $25 general admission, $15 students and seniors, and free for University of Mount Saint Vincent students and staff with valid ID.

The great detective Sherlock Holmes and his faithful friend John Watson face a climactic confrontation with Professor Moriarty in what could be their final case. “Our intimately-staged production will bring the audience into 221B Baker Street to join Holmes and Watson in solving a bizarre, funny, and thrilling mystery,” said Red Monkey Theater Group Artistic Director Tal Aviezer. “Long-time Sherlockians and new fans will love this faithful adaptation of one of Holmes’ most famous cases.”

The play is the fifth installment in a series of Holmes adventures adapted for the stage by Mr. Aviezer for performances in Cahill Theater and at Lyndhurst, a gothic revival mansion in Tarrytown, New York. This latest adventure draws upon elements from three of Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic stories: The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton, The Final Problem, and The Adventure of the Empty House.

The play is directed by Holland Renton, with production design by Carolyn Fuchs. It will feature a live musical underscore performed by Curtis Becraft and Viola Wang. The cast includes Joe Laureiro, Lawrence J. Reina, Amy Frey, Derek Tarson, and Elizabeth Mialaret, as well as Mr. Aviezer.

RMTG will also offer a free workshop, “Creating Theater from Narrative Literature,” on  April 22 at 2 p.m. In a 90-minute class, Mr. Aviezer will discuss his process for adapting Sir Arthur Conan’s stories for the stage and offer advice on how participants can create their own short theater pieces from classic stories.

Sherlock Holmes: The Final Problem is the fourth play in Red Monkey Theater Group’s 2016-2017 “Season of Life After Death,” presented in Cahill Theater at the University of Mount Saint Vincent. This season, the company will explore the idea of symbolic or literal resurrection. The season will conclude in May with Dead Man’s Cell Phone by Sarah Ruhl.
