Relay for Life at CMSV, April 19, 2013

Riverdale, N.Y. —The University of Mount Saint Vincent will host Relay for Life on its Riverdale Campus, from 3 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 to 3 a.m. the next day, on the Great Lawn. The event will feature games and activities to provide entertainment and build camaraderie, including a speech by New York Giants linebacker and cancer survivor Mark Herzlich.

The CMSV Relay for Life 2013 Schedule includes:

    • Survivor Reception at 2:30 p.m., Benedicts, Founders Hall
    • Survivor Ceremony from 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m., Great Lawn featuring:
    • A speech and Q&A with New York Giants linebacker, Mark Herzlich, who has fought and won the battle with cancer
    • Survivor Lap and Survivor Caregiver Lap
    • DJ and entertainment from 4:15 p.m. to 4:50 p.m., Great Lawn
    • Themed Laps/DJ from 5:00 p.m. to 8:50 p.m., Great Lawn featuring performances by Mount student groups Words, Dolphin Dolls, Flava, and the Music Club; a frozen t-shirt contest; and a water balloon toss among others
    • Luminaria Ceremony from 9:00 p.m. to 9:40 p.m., Great Lawn
    • Words Vocals from 9:50 p.m. to 11:20 p.m., Great Lawn
    • DJ/ Themed Laps from 11:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., Great Lawn
    • Fight Back Ceremony from 2:30 a.m. to 3:00 a.m., Great Lawn

The Relay for Life event is meant to raise funds and awareness to save lives from cancer. Organized by the American Cancer Society each year, it is attended by more than 4 million people in more than 20 countries. During a Relay event, participants and survivors celebrate what they’ve overcome during the Survivors Lap. During the Luminaria Ceremony, participants remember people lost to cancer, and honor people who have fought or are fighting cancer. The Fight Back Ceremony inspires Relay participants to take tangible action against a disease that has taken too much.
