Steven and Patty Ann McDonald to Speak at Mount Saint Vincent

2/15/2006

New York City Police Detective Steven McDonald and his wife Patty Ann McDonald will speak at the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday, March 1, 2006.  The McDonalds will lead a lecture entitled Faith and Forgiveness: A Life’s Journey.

Detective McDonald has been paralyzed from the neck down since 1986, when he was shot while on patrol in Central Park.  Since then, McDonald, who has publicly forgiven his assailant, has become an advocate for non-violent conflict resolution and speaks frequently to school children about the importance of forgiveness.

Detective and Mrs. McDonald will discuss the numerous challenges they have faced and share how they found the strength to transcend the shock, grief and bitterness caused by the shooting. The McDonalds will speak at 7:30 p.m. in the President’s Reception Room of the College’s Administration Building.  The University of Mount Saint Vincent is located at 6301 Riverdale Avenue, Riverdale, NY.  The March 1, 2006 event coincides with Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season.  This event is free and all are welcome.
