National Council on Teacher Quality: Mount Saint Vincent A Top School for Teachers

5/11/2017

Riverdale, N.Y. – The University of Mount Saint Vincent has been named one of the best colleges for undergraduate students pursuing a career in high school teaching, according to the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ). Mount Saint Vincent was one of 717 schools evaluated nationwide.

The study examines programs’ admission standards, subject-area preparation, requirements for courses on instructional method, guidance on how to manage a classroom, and whether programs provide and ensure high quality practice opportunities.

“We are honored NCTQ recognized our outstanding Teacher Education programs,” said Mount President Charles L. Flynn, Jr.

Mount Saint Vincent’s Department of Teacher Education prepares students who are passionate about education, committed to creating a caring and nurturing environment for all, and who believe that every child has the right and the ability to learn. In addition to offering undergraduate and graduate programs in Education, the Mount offers five-year programs in Childhood Education, Adolescent Education, and a dual concentration in Special and General Education. Students who choose a five-year program can achieve an undergraduate major in their area of concentration and an M.S. in Urban and Multicultural Education.

The Department strives to foster the academic and professional development of its students on their path to becoming competent, caring professionals who have the requisite knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to teach effectively in all school systems.

The Mount’s Teacher Education programs are fully accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC), an authority recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
