Mount Saint Vincent Meets Needs of Growing Student Population

9/5/2017

Campus upgrades include dorm renovations and refurbished parking

Riverdale, N.Y. – The University of Mount Saint Vincent is keeping pace with its robust freshman class with a number of campus-wide facelifts, including renovations to Spellman Hall, a freshly paved Spellman Parking Lot—featuring additional parking spaces and new lighting—and a conversion of space in Founders Hall to provide a state-of-the-art computer lab with trading room capabilities, such as LED ticker displays.

Although Spellman has undergone periodic updates since its construction in the 1960s, this fall marked its biggest revamping yet. In addition to converting its double rooms to triples to accommodate the College’s growing freshman class, Spellman now features EZH2O water bottle refilling stations, fresh paint, all new flooring and carpeting, mint-condition furniture, and new fixtures in every bathroom. To ensure its commitment to environmental sustainability, the College also installed hand dryers in the bathrooms and utilized recycled materials in its construction updates. Additionally, new laundry machines were installed in Seton, Marillac, and Spellman.

“Our goal, once a restoration is complete, is to provide vigilant maintenance to ensure optimal upkeep, minimizing the need to do major overhauls in the years to come,” said Kevin DeGroat, Vice President for Operations at the Mount.

Next up, Mr. DeGroat said, is the construction of a new dormitory, anticipated to begin in summer 2018, as well as updated nursing simulation labs. “As the Mount continues to grow in terms of both student population and status, we are making efforts to ensure we stay ahead of the curve,” Mr. DeGroat said.
