Mount Saint Vincent Joins in Efforts to Maintain College Affordability and Access

Consortium receives financial support from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Riverdale, N.Y. – The Lower Cost Models for Independent Colleges Consortium (LCMC) formed in January 2017 and hosted at Lasell College, Newton, Mass., is pleased to announce financial support from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to strengthen and continue its work to lower the cost of attendance and to strengthen the financial viability of its member institutions through collaboration and innovation.
Nineteen member institutions participate in the LCMC, and meetings (full consortium and committees) include the presidents, senior staff, and selected faculty. The following institutions with a total enrollment of more than 35,000 students are active LCMC members:
Adrian College, Alvernia University, Bay Path University, Bridgewater College, Centre College, University of Mount Saint Vincent, Heidelberg University, Holy Names University, Houghton College, Lasell College, Lesley University, Mary Baldwin University, Mount Ida College, Norwich University, Regis College, Roger Williams University, Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, University of La Verne, and York College of Pennsylvania
The LCMC Consortium evolved through the leadership of Lasell College President Michael Alexander to address opportunities to lower tuition and improve instructional quality at small liberal arts institutions of higher education with large percentages of Pell Grant qualifying students. The LCMC is currently collaborating on two academic programs related to financial planning and computer science.
The initial work of making a coherent organization from a small group of colleges was supported by the Davis Educational Foundation (established by Stanton and Elizabeth Davis after Mr. Davis’s retirement as Chairman of Shaw’s Supermarkets, Inc.). The LCMC became a formal organization in January of 2017 and is managed by Jangren Higher Education Consulting LLC under the leadership of Janet L. Holmgren.
