Chemistry Professor Elected Associate Director of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society

Pamela Kerrigan, Associate Professor of Chemistry has been elected Associate Director of Sigma Xi, the international honor society of science and engineering.

Her election came at the society’s recent annual meeting and student research conference, held this year in Detroit. Her three-year term begins July 1, 2007. She will represent Sigma Xi’s Northeast Region, which includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland.

Kerrigan received her B.A. at Lakeland College, her M.S. at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and her Ph.D. at Arizona State University. She has taught at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg, VA.

Kerrigan is a past president of Gamma Sigma Epsilon, national chemistry honor society. Kerrigan serves as secretary of the Manhattan College Chapter of Sigma Xi.

Founded in 1886, Sigma Xi has about 65,000 members and more than 500 chapters in North America and overseas. The society publishes award-winning American Scientist magazine and sponsors a variety of programs that support science and engineering. More than 200 Sigma Xi members have received the Nobel Prize.
