Mount Staff Embrace Holiday Giving by Adopting Local Families

12/4/2009

Staff and Administrators at the University of Mount Saint Vincent are extending a helping hand this holiday season to families in need. Forgoing the usual secret Santa gifts and office party trinkets, some Mount employees are pooling their gift giving funds to provide Bronx and Yonkers families with toys for their children and gift cards from supermarkets in order to make their Christmas holiday brighter. The effort is being coordinated through Sr. Frances Keegan, our former Director of Academic Advisement.

To personalize the gifts, givers are sent a list of each family’s desires and needs for the Christmas holiday.  Typical requests include scarves, hats, gloves and small toys for children as well as food for the table.

The Mount has a long history of supporting those in need.  The Sisters of Charity, who founded the College, epitomize those values.  Because of Mount employees, families in the local community will have the opportunity to have a warmer Christmas.
