College of Mount Saint Vincent to Host Frederick Douglass Academy High School Students on October 18, 2011 for “A Day in the Life of the Hudson”

Riverdale, N.Y. – The University of Mount Saint Vincent is pleased to host 20 high school students from Harlem’s Frederick Douglass Academy from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2011 as part of the 9th Annual “A Day in the Life of the Hudson.”

Under the direction of Professor of Biology Dr. Patricia Grove, the students will be working with 18 ecology students at the Mount to gather samples from the river and examine the physical, chemical, and biological parameters that affect the vitality of the river.

The Mount and Frederick Douglass students will join groups of students up and down the river to simultaneously collect data and post it on the Web. The event is coordinated through the NYS DEC Hudson River Estuary Unit and Lamont Dougherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University.
