College of Mount Saint Vincent Presents Winning Wednesday Career Workshop on Personal Finance & Budgeting

Riverdale, N.Y. – The University of Mount Saint Vincent’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies presents its second Winning Wednesday event of the spring semester, which will focus on personal finance & budgeting, titled “A Personal Financial Survival Kit: A Better Way to a Better Lifestyle.”
The Winning Wednesday Series are free and open to the public and offer professional advice on such topics as resume writing, hiring trends, interviewing skills and positioning yourself for your ideal job. The workshops also include information on the College’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies programs. Details of the workshop are as follows:

A Personal Financial Survival Kit: A Better Way to a Better Lifestyle
Millions of people make financial decisions daily, monthly, and yearly without realizing how these decisions impact their future. Financial decisions about banking, credit card use, and leases or mortgages can have a tremendous impact on us, either positively or negatively. Good financial decisions, such as putting money away for a future need or contributing to a 401(k) plan, can result in a positive financial outcome. Poor financial decisions, such as overusing a credit card, can negatively impact a person’s ability to get a job, rent an apartment, buy a car, or take out a loan for an emergency or college. Poor financial decisions often result in money worries and can negatively impact the quality of home life and employee job performance. Unless you have a large golden “nest egg” stashed away, you should always be thinking about ways to find money in your budget to help prepare you for a secure and comfortable future. This workshop will help you re-assess some of your financial decisions by finding better ways to put you on a path to a better lifestyle.
About Douglas Young
Douglas Young is the Director of the Center for Economic and Financial Education for the Council for Economic Education (CEE) located in New York City. He is responsible for creating and running workshops for teachers around economic and personal finance issues. Prior to CCE, he was a classroom teacher of economics and personal finance for more than 35 years at Croton-Harmon and Dobbs Ferry High Schools. He was recognized as the High School Teacher of the Year by both the Westchester and New York State Council for the Social Studies in 1994. He has been a member of the New York Federal Reserve’s Education Board, a reviewer for the State Education Department on the existing economics curriculum, and a contributing reviewer for McDougal Littell on their most recently published textbook Economics: Concepts and Choices. He is a Certified Personal Finance Educator with the Institute for Financial Literacy.
