College of Mount Saint Vincent Assistant Professor of Chemistry Awarded Honorable Mention in Olympus 2011 BioScapes Competition

Riverdale, N.Y. – Assistant Professor of Chemistry Janet Rollins received an Honorable Mention for her photomicrograph titled “Drosophila sperm” in the 2011 BioScapes competition sponsored by Olympus.

A photomicrograph is a photograph of an image captured from a microscope. Dr. Rollins used a special type of microscope known as a confocal microscope, which uses lasers to capture optical sections through the tissue, to create her winning submission.

Dr. Rollins also won an award for outstanding performance at the MAC poster competition at the 2001 annual meeting of the American Society for Cell Biology in Denver, Colo. in December.
