College of Mount Saint Vincent Hosts 3rd Annual Student Research and Service Symposium

Riverdale, N.Y.–The University of Mount Saint Vincent will host its 3rd Annual Student Research & Service Symposium on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. in Smith Hall. This event showcases the outstanding original research and service learning projects that Mount students complete every year.
“Our students are one of the truest measures of excellence we have as a college” says Dr. Omar Nagi, Director of Center for Undergraduate Research. “This is just one event where we annually celebrate our confidence in that measure.”
2013 Student Research & Service Symposium: Works and Participants
Vicky Milord ‘13 (Brooklyn, NY), Stephanie Tejada ‘13 (New York, NY), and Paz Julienne Rivera ‘13 (Bronx, NY) will present their research titled “Synthesis and Purification of Meso-substituted porphyrins.” This research has been showcased at the American Chemical Society’s 61st Annual Undergraduate Research conference.
Jenny Maria ‘13 (Bronx, NY), Desiree Alvarado ‘13 (Yonkers, NY), and Angelica Tejada ‘13 (New York, NY) will present their research project titled “Recall accuracy of autobiographical memory relates to current goal strength.” This research poster has been presented at the Eastern Psychological Association conference in March, 2013.
Alexa Taveras ‘14 (Bronx, NY) and Julian Torres ‘13 (Hopewell Junction, NY) will present their research poster titled “Understanding Object Representation of Mother, Father, and God Among Individuals with Psychosis.” This research has been presented at the 2nd Annual Undergraduate Research Conference at Mercy College.
Varun Chopra ‘13 (Punjab, India) will present two research posters: “Demonstrating an interactive tool for teaching basic Matrix Manipulation” and “Modeling and Simulation of Drug like Biomolecules: A subspace Markov Chain Monte Carlo Approach.” This research has been presented at the Spuyten Duyvil Undergraduate Math conference.
Nicole Rodriguez ‘13 (Bronx, NY) and Alexmi Polanco ‘13 (New York, NY) will present their research poster titled “Internship experience: Interpreting at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and its impact on learning.” This research has been presented at the Annual Eastern Psychological Association and numerous local undergraduate research conferences.
Jerline Hall ‘13 (Bronx, NY), Genesis Santana ‘13 (Yonkers, NY), Denese McGill-Anderson ‘13 (Mount Vernon, NY) and Yanique Ban ‘13 (Mount Vernon, NY) will present the research poster titled “STD Prevalence and Adolescent Myths.” This research has been presented at the Annual Educational Conference of the New York Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses.
Veronica Vay ‘13 (Avon, NJ) will present her research project titled “Effects of gender and attachment styles on religiosity.” This poster has been an Undergraduate Research Study Finalist at two large conferences: the Annual Eastern Psychological Association and the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion.
Lisa Gentile ‘13 (Mohegan Lake, NY) will present her honors thesis titled “Differences in the Use of New Media Technology in Television Programming Aimed at Younger and Older Audiences.” This poster has been featured at the 2nd Annual Undergraduate Research Conference at Mercy College.
