CMSV Awarded National Institute of Health Training Grant for Undergraduate Science Students

8/16/2013

Riverdale, N.Y. – Dr. Janet Rollins, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Mount Saint Vincent, received National Institute of Health (NIH) training grant funding through her work with Brown University. Dr. Rollins and Mount students will collaborate on a research study based at Brown University, beginning September 2013.

The study will focus on the impact of anticancer drugs on fertility and sperm development. Using fruit flies, Dr. Rollins and an elite group of student researchers will develop their own research theories. Next summer, one Mount student will attend Brown University to continue the same research, fully funded by Brown. The grant is provided for three years, offering this opportunity to three Mount students.

“People all over the country are becoming more aware of the University of Mount Saint Vincent,” says Dr. Rollins. “The research funding we are receiving trains quality students and gives them a sense of opportunity and empowerment.”
