College of Mount Saint Vincent Adjunct Professor and Founder of BalaSole Dance Company Roberto Villanueva Awarded Outstanding Filipino American in New York Award for Arts and Culture, on October 27, 2012

Riverdale, N.Y. – University of Mount Saint Vincent Adjunct Professor Roberto Villanueva received the 2012 Outstanding Filipino American in New York (TOFA-NY) under the Arts and Culture category, at the Weil Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on Saturday, October 27, 2012.
Mr. Villanueva is a classical arts dancer, as well as founder and artistic director of the BalaSole Dance Company, the University of Mount Saint Vincent’s dance company-in-residence. Acclaimed nationally and internationally for his technical abilities as a dance artist, he has been praised by the New York Times “for the deftness and technical control of his dancing.”
Born in the Philippines, Mr. Villanueva was nominated for the Outstanding Filipino American in New York award and was a featured performer during the ceremony, which celebrated Filipino American history month. Past Outstanding Filipino American awardees and honorees include U.S. Marshals spokesperson Roland Ubaldo, Pulitzer Award-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas, and TONY Award-winner Lea Salonga.
