College of Mount Saint Vincent Assistant Professor of Spanish Mariela Wong and CMSV chapter of Model UN Travel to Harvard University for National Model United Nations 2013

Riverdale, N.Y. –Assistant Professor of Spanish Mariela Wong, along with the University of Mount Saint Vincent Model United Nations Club, travelled to Harvard University for the Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN) 2013 Conference held from Thursday, February 14, 2013 to Sunday, February 17, 2013, at the historic Park Plaza Hotel in downtown Boston, Massachusetts.
The students representing the Mount’s new Model UN Club were Caroline Abreu ’14, Communication; LeeAnn Brathwaite ’14, History; Steven Cabrera ’13, Communication; Adam Derouin ’15, Communication; Anastasia Knapp ’13, Nursing; Daniel Miguel ’15, Sociology; Katherine Moreira ’15, Psychology; Erik Rodriguez ’13, Business.
Dr. Wong says, “I think the students did exceptionally well for their first conference. The Mount’s delegation signed two passed resolutions. The Model UN is important because students learn to debate, practice public speaking, and gain knowledge of public affairs.”
LeeAnn Brathwaite, a junior who participated in the trip, says “It was interesting to be part of this experience. I met people from all over the world: Venezuela, Australia, the U.K. I wish I was a sophomore so I could keep going.”
HNMUN is the oldest, largest, and most diverse Model United Nations conference, entering its 59th session this year. The conference unites 3,000 university students from more than 40 nations throughout the world to engage in debates over the most demanding issues that face the international community today.
