College of Mount Saint Vincent Center for International Studies Presents Dr. Rosita E. Villagómez on Cuban Film

Riverdale, N.Y. – The University of Mount Saint Vincent Center for International Studies is pleased to announce the upcoming distinguished speaker Dr. Rosita E. Villagómez, Department of Modern Languages and Literature, from 4 to 5 p.m. on April 19, 2012 in the Science Building on the College’s Riverdale campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Rosita E. Villagómez will speak about the role of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) in Cuban cultural life. Specifically, the presentation will examine movies filmed after the hardest crises in Cuban history, known as the “Special Period,” and their portrayal of women, class, and immigration.
Cuban Institute on Cinematographic Arts and Industry was created 83 days after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. The ICAIC is devoted to the fulfillment of the Cuban national cinema and promoting the creation of a more informed and engaged audience.
