College of Mount Saint Vincent Professor Will Lecture on Ethnic Studies March 12

Riverdale, N.Y. – University of Mount Saint Vincent Professor of Humanities and Teacher Education Dr. Ron Scapp will present a lecture on ethnic studies on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at Stony Brook University’s Melville Library.

The lecture, “The Assault on Ethnic Studies: An Assault on Democracy?” is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by Stony Brook’s Center for Italian and Italian American Studies.

An alumnus of Stony Brook University, Dr. Scapp studied continental philosophy and the history of philosophy, focusing on race, class, and gender issues. He is the founding director of the Graduate Program in Urban and Multicultural Education at Mount Saint Vincent. Dr. Scapp is currently the president of the National Association for Ethnic Studies and is also the editor for Ethnic Studies Review, a peer-reviewed multi-disciplinary international journal devoted to the study of ethnicity, ethnic groups and their cultures, and inter-group relations.
