College of Mount Saint Vincent Provides Economic Relief for Attendees of Local Catholic High Schools
10/6/2008
In response to the country’s current economic crisis, the University of Mount Saint Vincent has created a new program to alleviate the financial burden placed on students and their families. The all new Local Catholic High School Incentive Awards will be given to admitted Mount students who have attended area Catholic high schools. The idea is to give back to those families who are committed to a Catholic education and have invested tuition money each year at a private Catholic school.
The new award will fund $7,000 – $10,000 for resident students and $6,000 – $8,000 for commuter students at the Mount. Each year, families in the Bronx, Manhattan and Westchester, who have students enrolled in a private Catholic high school, make a deliberate decision to invest in a Catholic education. The College wants to assist those families and help them continue in higher education at an institution that serves in the Catholic tradition. The award is one of dozens available for students at the Mount where 95% of the student body receives some form of financial aid.
“Funds are quickly running out for students who need government loans and grants,” said Tim Nash, VP of Enrollment. “The University of Mount Saint Vincent is committed to aiding students in our local community. The Local Catholic High School Incentive Awards is just one more way we can accomplish that.”
The College will be hosting an open house on Sunday, October 19. Students who would like to hear more about the Award or the programs at the college are encouraged to register and attend.
