College of Mount Saint Vincent Sophomore Wins Coveted Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship

University of Mount Saint Vincent student, Sasha Paulino has been awarded with the Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship. The Fellowship, established by the Thomas J. Watson Foundation in 1999, is a three-year program that offers students paid summer internships, mentoring, and enhanced educational opportunities to New York City undergraduates who demonstrate exceptional promise, outstanding leadership and commitment to the common good.

A graduate of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School, Paulino grew up in the Bronx and is now a sophomore at the Mount. She is currently pursuing a double major in History and Education. Her previous employment experiences include teaching art for the Jewish Community Center’s enrichment program for autistic children in Scarsdale and working as a head counselor at the Children’s Aid Society Wagon Road Day Camp in Chappaqua. She has been an intern at Jacobi Medical Center’s Bronx Youth as Partners in Community-Based Participatory Research and volunteered at the YMCA of the Greater New York as a Youth Counselor.

The University of Mount Saint Vincent is one of ten invited colleges that compete for fifteen Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship openings each year. Each school may nominate up to four candidates to send to the citywide selection panels. For three consecutive summers, Watson fellows have their pick of coveted job placements in non-profit agencies, business organizations and government service. Past fellows have interned the United Nations Population Fund and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
