College of Mount Saint Vincent Welcomes the American Chemical Society Regional Conference

1/10/2014

Riverdale, N.Y. – The New York Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) will be holding their regional conference at the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, January 18, 2014 in Smith Hall.

Dr. Pamela Kerrigan, the current chair of the New York Section of the ACS and Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Mount Saint Vincent, has organized this meeting where the group will make plans for the year to continue the success of the Section.

The conference will feature a keynote address by Dr. John C. Warner, President and Chief Technology Officer for Warner Babcock Institute for Green Chemistry, Inc., titled, “Entropic Control in Materials Design as an Example of Green Chemistry.” Dr. Warner’s discussion will focus on the making of bioinspired photopolymers utilizing green chemistry methods. These methods are designed to reduce the toxicological and environmental impact of the synthesis and manufacturing of chemical items, with an idea to reduce the generation of byproducts at their source.

The New York Section of the ACS is the premier membership organization for chemists, chemical engineers, and allied professionals in the New York metropolitan area and a leader in advancing the public’s scientific literacy and appreciation of chemistry.
