9/17/2007
Dedication Ceremony Takes Place in Spellman Hall
Beginning on August 26, approximately 200 students moved in to the newly opened Mastronardi Hall. Four days prior, honorees and guests gathered in Spellman Hall to celebrate the completion of the new residence hall. The unveiling of Mastronardi Hall is the latest culmination of the college’s Building Our Future capital campaign.
After the ceremonial blessing by Sr. Dorothy Metz and President Flynn’s opening remarks, honorees Valerie E. and Nicholas D. Mastronardi addressed family, friends, and guests, which included Congressman Eliot Engel, and His Excellency Archbishop Celestino Migliore. Afterwards, guests were invited to partake in guided tours of Mastronardi Hall led by student resident advisors.
The Mastronardi family has been inextricably linked to the University of Mount Saint Vincent’s mission for decades. As an alumna, Valerie realized the significance of having housing options such as the new residence hall. “This magnificent building is something I wish were available when I attended the Mount. Housing for our students has always been a priority and this new residence hall addresses the needs of our students as we plan for the future of the Mount.”
Construction of Mastronardi Hall began on June 2006 and was intended to open in 2007. The building is Adjacent to Alumnae Hall and is directly across from Spellman Hall. This latest building is made possible due to the success of the Building Our Future capital campaign which is comprised of over $25 million in gifts, grants, and pledges. This ongoing project includes the renovation of existing buildings as well as construction of new facilities such as the Stephen J. Maloney Computer Center and Mastronardi Hall.
