Mount Hosts Leadership Conference on Global Healthcare and Sustainable Well-Being

11/30/2017

Riverdale, N.Y. – The University of Mount Saint Vincent hosted its second ANIMA Executive Leadership Academy on November 1, 2017. The one-day conference focused on global healthcare and sustainable well-being, and welcomed an array of prominent industry leaders, including keynote speaker Sharon Callahan, CEO of TBWA/WorldHealth; John Damonti, president of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation; Serge Dumont, vice chairman of Omnicom Group, Inc.; Gabriela Isler, former Miss Universe and social media director of Soulful Impact; Brian Crimmins, CEO of Changing Our World and managing partner of ONE HUNDRED; Ryan Cummins, co-founder and CEO of Omaze; Diana Mao, president of the Nomi Network; and Atti Worku, founder and executive director of Seeds of Africa.

Founded through a partnership between Mount Saint Vincent, Soulful Impact, and ONE HUNDRED, the immersive seminar brought together academic and industry professionals to explore the type of leadership necessary to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, reflective of the United Nation’s third initiative in their Sustainable Development Goals.

Earlier this year, the Mount hosted a three-day ANIMA Executive Leadership Academy with a theme of global philanthropy and social entrepreneurship. Both events highlighted the ANIMA model of leadership, which symbolizes a soulful approach to the enormous privileges and responsibilities embedded in leadership. In a global, increasingly interconnected society, the leaders who create the greatest impact will be those who serve, mentor, and inspire others.

One participant, a graduate student in the University of Mount Saint Vincent’s International Development and Service program, discussed the Academy’s networking benefits. “The seminar was a great opportunity to meet leaders from different fields, to work as a team, and to share innovative approaches to address healthcare issues,” said Katerina Pecora ’19.

Michael Hoffman, director of the ANIMA Executive Leadership Academy and chairman of Changing Our World, and Deirdre Gaughan, assistant director of the ANIMA Executive Leadership Academy and CEO of Soulful Impact, reflected on the growing success of the Academy. “The ANIMA Executive Leadership Academy, which initially took place in June, led to a very open and genuine sense of community as the participants formed a true bond sharing their experiences and insights in how to embody soulful leadership in their personal and professional lives. The seminar held in November proved uniquely powerful by presenting an opportunity to teach the ANIMA model in the context of the specific field of global healthcare and highlight how soulful leadership enables practitioners in this field to reach the highest potential of their crucial vocation.”
