Mount Launches Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

9/5/2017

Riverdale, N.Y. – To assist in providing critical blood needed in storm-affected areas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, the University of Mount Saint Vincent will hold a blood drive on September 6 and 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Smith Hall. Registrations are available through the Office of Campus Ministry. Walk-ins are welcome.

Held in partnership with the New York Blood Center, the College’s blood drive will support nationwide efforts to meet the emergency blood needs of patients in hurricane-ravaged southeast Texas. Blood centers in various Texas areas have been impacted—from damaged businesses, displaced citizens to local blood drive cancellations and power outages—and donations are urgently needed to maintain reserves for continued response.

Since the storm made landfall on August 25, numerous fatalities have been confirmed. It is estimated that tens of thousands of homes have been destroyed, with thousands more severely damaged. As Texas begins to recover, the College will continue to coordinate efforts to provide vital aid to victims.
