Mount Professors Recognized by the Association for Ethnic Studies

3/15/2018

Riverdale, N.Y. – Professor of Humanities and Teacher Education Ron Scapp and Associate Professor of Italian and History and Chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures David Aliano have spearheaded the revival of the Ethnic Studies Review journal. They earned recognition for their editorial leadership during the 46th Annual Conference of the Association for Ethnic Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., on Friday, March 9, 2018.

For the past six years, Dr. Scapp has served as editor and Dr. Aliano has served as associate editor of the Ethnic Studies Review. Due to their editorial efforts, the journal, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, has regained its significance and importance as a peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary international journal devoted to the study of ethnicity, ethnic groups and their cultures, and inter-group relations, within the academic community.

“Our success and being acknowledged is just another example of the Mount faculty demonstrating their scholarship, collaborative engagement, and commitment to social justice.” Dr. Scapp said. “Dr. Aliano and I are proud to represent the College and its mission in such an important and international manner.”

Additionally, beginning this year, the Association for Ethnic Studies has entered an agreement with the University of California Press to publish the journal, which will transition to a digital format and is set to expand from a biannual to a quarterly in the coming years.

The Association for Ethnic Studies is a non-profit organization founded 1972, which provides an interdisciplinary forum for scholars and activists concerned with the national and international dimensions of race and ethnicity.
