Mount Saint Vincent Faculty Member Receives Fulbright Scholar Award

Daniel S. Shiffman, Assistant Professor of English at the University of Mount Saint Vincent, has been awarded a 2005-2006 Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at Osaka University in Osaka, Japan according to the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Dr. Shiffman will lecture on Cross-Cultural Encounters in American Literature and is one of 850 U.S. faculty and academic professionals traveling abroad to teach or conduct research this year through the Fulbright Scholar Program.  Award recipients are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement and must demonstrate extraordinary leadership potential in their field.

“The Fulbright Scholar Program has and will continue to be a vital experience for academic professionals in our greater global classroom,” said President Charles L. Flynn. “Dr. Shiffman represents well the College faculty: talented, ambitious, and distinguished.”

The Fulbright Program, established in 1946, is America’s flagship international educational exchange activity.  Sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Fulbright Program has allowed thousands of U.S. faculty members and educational professionals the opportunity to teach and conduct research overseas while allowing foreign faculty the chance to visit the United States.
