Riverdale, N.Y. – All University of Mount Saint Vincent students studying abroad in IPSL programs in Ecuador are confirmed safe after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook the country on Saturday, April 16.

Four students are studying in Guayaquil and one student is studying in the Galápagos Islands.

IPSL and the Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo (UEES) have been able to confirm the safety of the students on record studying in Ecuador. IPSL has been in constant contact with their on-site program directors and emergency response teams, and will continue to monitor this event. Updated information will be posted to the IPSL website.

The earthquake struck off Ecuador’s central coast on Saturday night, killing at least 272 people and injuring thousands. The quake was felt across the country, impacting Guayaquil—the country’s most populous city—destroying hundreds of homes and knocking out power.
