Mount to Host National American Association of University Women Executive Leaders and Regional Members on June 14th

The University of Mount Saint Vincent will host a reception for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) on Monday June 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the President’s Reception Room. Co-authors Catherine Hill and Andresse St. Rose will discuss their latest AAUW report Why So Few? Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The evening will also provide an opportunity for local members of AAUW to connect with members of the National AAUW executive branch. This reception is open to all members AAUW, and the Mount community, alumnae/i and friends.

The evening will begin with a meet and greet session and light refreshments followed by a welcoming from Linda D. Hallman, Executive Director of AAUW.  Hallman’s experience includes serving with the National Alliance for Health Information Technology in Washington D.C.  Following this welcoming co-authors Catherine Hill and Andresse St. Rose will give a presentation on their latest report Why So Few? Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, followed by a Q and A session. This comprehensive report questions the controversial issue of continued underrepresentation of women in these fields.

This past March the AAUW New York City, Westchester and Manhattan Branches along with the College sponsored “Explore Your Opportunities,” a conference that helps 7th grade girls further explore the fields of math and science while learning about career opportunities for women in these fields.
