Mount Welcomes Self-Taught Artist and Mathematician Andy Hudak

5/2/2017

Riverdale, N.Y. –  The University of Mount Saint Vincent welcomed self-taught artist and mathematician Andy Hudak at a special exhibit and reception Wednesday, May 3 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Crossroads Art Gallery in Founders Hall.

Enrico Giordano, Interim Chair and Associate Professor of Fine Arts, and his wife, Alex, met Mr. Hudak in January and quickly became fascinated by his story: social activist, artist, and, most intriguingly, calendar reformer. Along with Peter Luthy, Chair and Assistant Professor of Mathematics, they began meeting with Mr. Hudak weekly to learn more about his work.

Mount communication major Mike Loop ’18 filmed an interview the group conducted with Mr. Hudak, now titled “Changing Time,” that delves deeper into Mr. Hudak’s rich personal history, including the art work he made during the Vietnam War, the Kon-Tiki raft replica he once built, and the unique clocks he has created. The film will be screened during the event.
